Graduation

This year will be a very busy year for all students who are planning to graduate!

It is very important that students keep up to date with the various activities leading up to graduation.  We will meet with all potential graduates several times throughout the year as the 2022 Graduating Class, and individually. There will be many announcements from Guidance to our potential graduates and this website will be updated throughout the year.

Potential graduates, please ensure that you fulfill ALL of your graduation requirements. This includes:

1.  the successful completion of at least 30 credits (including the 18 compulsory credits).

2.  the successful completion of the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test or the OLC Course.
The Ministry of Education has waived this requirement for students graduating in June 2022.

3.  the completion of at least  40 hours of community involvement.
Record of your community involvement activities must be submitted by May 31, 2022.
The Ministry of Education has changed the requirement for students graduating in 2022.  The minimum hours required is 20 hours.

2022 GRADUATION DATE IS WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29 at 7:00 p.m.
We are looking forward to celebrating with you the achievements of the Class of 2022 at Laura Secord's Graduation Ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at 7:00 pm. at Laura Secord Secondary School.

The doors to our James H. Smith Performing Arts Theatre will open at 6:30 p.m.

Potential graduates are reminded about a few items:

1.       Graduation Requirements

Please ensure that you fulfill ALL your graduation requirements.  This includes the successful completion of at least 30 credits (including the 18 compulsory credits) and at least 20 hours of community involvement.  The Ministry of Education has waived the Literacy Test requirement for the Class of 2022.

2.       Arrival Time

Graduating students are required to arrive at the school, prepared, by 6:30 p.m. on the day of Graduation and to go directly to the lower cafeteria.

3.       Dress

You must be wearing your gown and cap with tassel. You are reminded that the Graduation Ceremony is a formal event to celebrate your achievements and to bring appropriate closure to your years at Laura Secord.  Please dress appropriately for the occasion. If you need formal wear, please inform us in advance.

4.       Guests

We want to ensure that invited guests enjoy the ceremony from the comfort of a seat in the Theatre.  It is also important from a safety perspective that we strictly adhere to the capacity guidelines.  For this reason, each student on the Potential Graduates’ List will be issued four guest tickets in early June.  Should you desire additional tickets, there will be an opportunity to request more at that time.  If additional tickets become available, they will be distributed by lottery and students will be contacted to arrange for pickup.  Please note that a ticket will be required for entry.  As well, please be advised that students who have not yet completed their required community involvement hours for graduation, or have made arrangements to pay their grad fee, will not be issued tickets.  If there is an issue regarding grad fees, please see us.

5.       Reception

Following the ceremony, graduates and guests will be invited to a reception in the lower cafeteria at the school.  There will be an area for you and your family to take photos to remember this special day.
